Highly Performance Home, Carrick Sands SA

Project Info
We worked very closely with the client of this modern brick veneer home. Clare was a star student of Undercover Architect’s ‘Home Method’ and hence she came to Harmonic Design with a well formed design brief for a high performance home.
The nature of the site meant there was an encumbrance which placed some fixed parameters on the design. A requirement for 40% masonry and limits on wall heights amongst other things, resulted in a ‘beach house’ with a somewhat more urban look and feel; one which has ultimately been softened and warmed up by the selection of materials and finishes that includes full recycled bricks, polished concrete, zincalume metal sheeting and Weathertex timber cladding boards.
The home is design and constructed using PassiveHaus principles. The builder’s are certified PassiveHaus trades and they achieved a high level of air-tightness using the various building wraps, airtight window frames and attention to detail.
The home achieved a very high air-tightness rating which means the centrally ducted heat recovery unit was a sensible inclusion and one which brings benefit of reduced energy consumption and clean internal air.
