High Performance, Multi-generational Home (Built by Enduro), Payneham SA

Harmonic Design collaborated with Brett Aylen Architecture to plan, design, and layout an exemplary home, replacing an old bungalow on a flat domestic allotment.

The clients requested a multi-generational home with a separate pedestrian entry for privacy at the rear, and a four-bedroom family home with living areas at the front, combined with outdoor spaces to the east and west.

We resolved the complex requirements under a continuous, low-form 'flat' roof by dividing the rectangular allotment into six primary spaces, separated by a long central axis. This design allows easy access to all zones within the home while providing a sense of separation. The 'cross-breeze' style of access from one side of each open-plan living space to another ensures views or openings to at least one outdoor living space, and in some cases, two.

Key Design Elements:

• Window and Door Placement: Carefully considered to ensure good passive solar heat gain, achieve a sense of separation of living quarters, and combine privacy with optimal natural light.

• Outdoor Integration: The design integrates outdoor living spaces to the east and west, enhancing the connection between indoor and outdoor areas.

This thoughtful design not only meets the clients' complex needs but also creates a harmonious living environment for multiple generations.
